Demolition Dumpster Rental

A demolition project isn't the same thing as ongoing construction debris — tearing down a shed, garage, deck, or interior walls generates dense, heavy material all at once rather than a steady trickle over the course of a build. Old lumber, plaster, lath, mixed fasteners, and structural debris pile up fast, and weight becomes the limiting factor well before volume does. NorthPoint sizes demolition containers around that reality, with swap service available when a single container isn't enough for the full teardown.

Tearing It Down Yourself? Equipment Can Help

A shed, deck, or interior demo is a lot of physical work before any of it reaches the container. Our sister company, NorthPoint Equipment Rentals, has excavators with a hydraulic thumb for gripping and pulling apart wood-framed structures, and a hydraulic hammer attachment if concrete — a foundation, slab, or footing — is part of the job. Recommended Sizes for Demolition Debris

Every job varies, but these are the sizes most commonly booked for this type of project.

Demolition Debris FAQ

How is a demolition container different from a regular construction container?

Mainly weight. Demolition debris — old framing, plaster, mixed structural material — tends to run heavier per cubic yard than ongoing renovation debris, so we size the weight allowance around that from the start rather than letting it come as a surprise at pickup.

Can I demo a shed, deck, or garage myself and just need the container?

Yes — this is one of the most common demolition requests we get. You handle the teardown, we handle placement and disposal. Let us know the approximate size of the structure when you book so we can size the container correctly.

What if my project is an active renovation, not a full teardown?

If you're renovating rather than fully demolishing a structure, our construction debris page is usually the better fit — it's built around ongoing job-site debris and scheduled swaps rather than a single heavy load.

Do you accept mixed demolition debris — wood, drywall, and metal together?

Yes, standard mixed demolition debris is accepted together. Large amounts of concrete or masonry from a foundation demo are the one exception worth flagging upfront — see our concrete and dirt page if that's a significant part of the job.

Do I need a permit for a demolition project?

It depends on the scope and your town — a full structural teardown is more likely to need a permit than removing a small shed. See our NH permit guide, or check with your town office directly for anything involving a permanent structure.

Does a demolition project need asbestos testing before I book?

If the structure was built before the late 1970s, it's worth having it tested before demo begins — some materials from that era can contain asbestos, which isn't accepted in a standard container. This is separate from the dumpster booking itself.

Is interior demo — removing walls or flooring — different from a full structure teardown?

Interior demo generally generates less overall weight and volume than a full teardown, and often fits a 15-yard rather than a 20-yard. Let us know the scope when you book so we can size it accurately.

What if my demolition project needs more than one container?

We can schedule a swap — picking up a full container and dropping an empty one — rather than trying to fit an entire large teardown into a single load.

Are there things worth setting aside before demolition instead of throwing them in the container?

Fixtures, doors, hardware, and some lumber are sometimes worth reselling or donating before a teardown starts, depending on condition — worth a quick look before demo begins if that's of interest to you.

How far in advance should a full demolition project be booked?

As early as you can once you have a rough teardown date — demolition containers, especially 20-yards, are in steady demand, and early booking gives more flexibility on delivery timing.
